Workshops Call for Papers

Workshops provide a space to discuss advanced research and innovative solutions, seeking also to show results achieved from industrial applications and/or research projects. CIO 2017 propose the following Open Workshops:

Workshop title: Formative assessment of competences in Higher Education.

Code: OWS01

Objective of the workshop: This workshop focuses on presenting innovative developments and applications regarding formative assessment of specific and transversal competencies/skills in Higher Education.

Topics covered: – Trends in formative assessment – Theoretical proposals in competences development and improvement – Experiences in competences development and improvement – Synergies between specific and transversal competences – IT tools applied to formative assessment.

Workshop title: Gamificación en las asignaturas de Dirección de operaciones.

Objective of the workshop: Presentar y compartir propuestas docentes (juegos desarrollados en clase, simuladores, sistemas de evaluación o participación) que se basen en los principios de la gamificación, es decir, de la incorporación de las dinámicas de los juegos en la docencia y más concretamente en la docencia de la materia de Dirección de Operaciones.

Objective of the workshop: This workshop focuses on presenting innovative frameworks/applications in the field of performance management to better manage industry and public organisations based decision-making processes.

Workshop title: Asembly line design and control.

Code: OWS04

Objective of the workshop: Taking into account the accelerating evolution of technology, management practices, and production strategies, the focus of this WS is the proposal and/or innovative application of analytical and optimization approaches to efficiently manage assembly lines in order to support decision making in the industry.

Topics covered: • Design of assembly systems and equipment selection • Assembly systems as a part of integrated decision making • Sustainability issues in assembly systems, including environmental impact assessment • Ergonomics issues and human/social factors in Assembly Lines • Multiple-criteria decision making and multi-objective optimization in assembly systems • Logistics and part feeding in assembly systems • Inventory management and production planning in production lines • Assembly line balancing • Lot sizing and sequencing of workpieces in assembly systems • Job scheduling and job rotation in assembly systems

Workshop title: Forecasting and inventory control.

Code: OWS05

Objective of the workshop: Forecasting techniques are widely used in many areas of operations research. One of these areas is inventory control. The development of methods that can be applied to optimize the supply chain management in different contexts include both of these research fields: forecasting and inventory control. The objective of this workshop is to bridge the gap between forecasting techniques and inventory control to optimize the supply chain management.

Topics covered: Forecasting systems to decision-making processes • Applications of particular forecasting models • Theoretical, practical, computational and methodological forecasting studies • Empirical or model-based performance assessment of inventory systems • Use of big data in inventory management • Retail inventory management, • Consumer behaviour: product selection, substitution, discounting, etc. • Inventory routing problems, VMI and related concepts.

Workshop title: Nuevas tendencias en la Gestión de la Cadena de Suministro.

Objective of the workshop: El objetivo de este workshop es presentar y debatir sobre las nuevas tendencias en la Gestión de la Cadena de Suministro como el proceso de planificación, puesta en ejecución y control de las operaciones de una red de empresas con el propósito de satisfacer las necesidades del cliente final con la mayor eficiencia posible. Aunque el concepto “Gestión de la Cadena de Suministro” comenzó a popularizarse a mediados de la década de los 90, su popularidad se ha mantenido a lo largo de 2 décadas.

Workshop title: Trends and challenges in secure, clean and efficient energy.

Code: OWS07

Objective of the workshop: This workshop focuses on the emerging concept of smart grids. The workshop aims to cover the energy efficiency of the whole system including the generation and production of energy, the storage of energy, the new concept of smart grids, and the behavioural change toward energy efficiency through ICT. The workshop also covers more efficient and cleaner production and transportation systems aiming to reduce the carbon footprint.

Topics covered:– Distributed energy generation optimization – energy storage – smart grid operation – integration of renewable energy generation – demand forecast – demand side management and demand response – network integration – energy comfort adaptive control – energy behavioural change – green and sustainable supply chain – green and sustainable transport.

Workshop title: Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Sustainability.

Code: OWS08

Objective of the workshop: This workshop proposes a space to debate sustainability and innovation in an entrepreneurship framework in its theoretical and practical aspects. Both concepts and the way in which they are implemented are related to the different governmental policies and practices as well as the private business activity. The Government of each country acts through initiatives which can be considered as variants of economic or social entrepreneurship, in relation to the companies and organizations which constitute the Public Sector and through legislative policies and initiatives which modify the social conditions and orient other types of innovation in private companies and the relation between this innovation and sustainability. Entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability are also key factors for education. 

Topics covered:– • Circular economy • Economic and social entrepreneurship • Changes in consumer preferences • Smart Cities • Forms of Green Innovation or eco-innovation in different companies. • Business strategies, policies and practices in sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship. • Cultural changes in relation to a greater awareness of the need for sustainability. • Sustainable education • Smart Universities • Theoretical frameworks, case studies, and empirical education link to entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability are all welcoming
